Blogging 101

So let’s start at the very beginning. What is a blog and why the hell do we want to blog?

First of all let’s define what a blog is not: it is not a website. It is not a space for a business to  just showcase products and services.

There can certainly  be an element of showcasing of your products and services on a blog, but I think the main difference lies in the tone. Blogs are always written in the first person. They are the opinion of the blogger.

‘A weblog is a hierarchy of text, images, media objects and data, arranged chronologically, that can be viewed in an HTML browser.’ Source

So What is a Blog???

Confused yet? Don’t be – its really quite simple. To put it as simply as possible – a blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.

Wikipedia, the democratic online encyclopedia says: “A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog”.

So, that should be enough definitions. Let’s get blogging.
